When it comes to environmental issues, we take our responsibilities very seriously. Gelidus are comitted to helping protect the environment for the future and actively promotes the three R's - reduce, recycle and reuse in our everyday business activities.
reducing ozone-depleting refrigerants
All of our engineers are certified 'safe refrigerant handlers' and are fully trained to deal with equipment operating on older ozone-depleting refrigerants.
We offer the safe removal and destruction of these refrigerants, and in most cases can provide an ozone-friendly replacement.
We are pro-active in ensuring our customers compliance with the new F-gas regulation, which now places a legal obligation on them as the end-user to reduce emissions of such greenhouse gases through better containment and leakage prevention.
reducing energy consumption
Gelidus are successfully managing a reduction in energy consumption at not only our own premises, but also at our customers sites.
Our offices are heated entirely through the use of 'A' rated energy-efficient heat-pump equipment and all employees are encouraged to operate a 'switch it off' policy to include computers, lights, printers, copiers etc.
Energy efficiency ratings are also a high priority criteria to us when making equipment selections for our customers sites, which in the long term not only benefits our customers, but the environment and in turn, all of us.
Gelidus are also active in promoting reduced energy consumption at the many sites that we manage on a preventative maintenance basis. We commonly find heating systems fighting cooling systems, controls poorly calibrated and time clocks overridden to run power-hungry plant 24/7.
reducing lost heat energy
Gelidus are pro-active in promoting the use of heat-recovery systems.
Our heat-recovery ventilation systems provide an effective amount of free heating to the fresh air being introduced into a building, from heat which is extracted from the air being exhausted to outside.
Heat being rejected from areas having a year-round cooling requirement (such as equipment rooms, gymnasiums etc) can be readily harnessed to heat other areas or hot water circuits.
reducing the harmful effects of hazardous waste
Gelidus are a registered handler of waste refrigerant products and oils.
Redundant ozone-depleting or contaminated refrigerants are safely recovered and sent back to the refrigerant manufacturers for final safe disposal. Waste oils are also disposed of in an approved and documented manner.
recycling and waste reduction
Gelidus endorse that we can all make a difference through responsible recycling.
Each year we recycle tons of cardboard packaging, printer and copier cartridges. We also dismantle and remove recycleable materials from redundant air conditioning equipment that has been decommissioned and removed.
This recycling of waste products has reduced our general waste collections which has not only resulted in a financial saving, but has significantly reduced the amount of waste that leaves our premises bound for landfill.
reuse of otherwise waste materials
Gelidus are pro-active in reducing our waste further through the reuse of certain products and materials. Wooden pallets are reused, as are polythene protective sheets and various type of packaging materials.
