The Requirement
When the new owners of this attractive office building in the heart of Mayfair set to work on planning its refurbishment, Gelidus were recommended by an existing client to plan and execute the upgrade of the dated air conditioning system that provided both heating and cooling across its 6 floors.
With the existing Daikin VRV systems being some 20 years old and configured in a way that made upgrade and floor separation difficult, it was time for a complete re-design to provide the client with new systems that would offer flexibility and reliability for the next 20 years to come.
The Solution
Whilst re-use of the existing piping provided a cost-effective option, it wasn’t right for the client to go forward with given its unusual cross-floor configuration.
With the building having its original ceilings and little in the way of floor voids, we proposed the installation of Daikin’s latest VRV IV+ heat-recovery systems as their compact refrigerant changeover boxes could be concealed within cupboards and fitments on each floor.
New pipework and wiring layouts were installed throughout the building to leave each of the six new VRV IV+ systems dedicated to a separate floor, and a mix of vertical and horizontal ducted air conditioners were concealed within fitments internally so not to distract from the charm of this period building.
The latest ‘Madoka’ controllers were installed to provide simple operation for the occupants and the option to control them from their smartphones if required.
